18-year-old man has handed himself into police after apparently shooting neighbour with a rifle
The sleepy coastal town of Cagnes-sur-Mer was rocked this week after a neighbourhood dispute ended in the death of a 40-year-old man. The incident took place in the Les Jardins de Cocagne residence in the early hours of Monday afternoon. The unfortunate event occurred after a family lunch apparently spilled over into a domestic squabble, prompting a neighbour to come over and complain about the excessive noise.
With inflamed passions, the homeowners took the umbrella at the man’s interjection and the argument soon escalated into insults and threats. The neighbor then returned to an axis, before coming back to the house in question and threatening violence if his wishes were not obeyed. At this point, it is believed that someone in the house responded by retrieving their own weapon – a rifle – and in the ensuing confusion, the man was shot and sustained serious injuries.
An 18-year-old male, believed to be the culprit, originally fled the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics arrived on the scene but were unable to revive the stricken party, who died later that afternoon from his wounds. An elderly lady is also thought to be mildly injured, while two young women were visibly shaken by the events of the afternoon. Although they were taken into custody for questioning, they were later released.
As yet, no details about the identity of the victim or the public. Indeed, very little concrete information is known about the incident other than its location in the hilltop residence of Cagnes-sur-Mer. The investigation has been entrusted to the security forces of the Alpes-Maritimes department and several witnesses to the exact sequence of events. However, since a young man has already made it happen to the authorities, it does not appear to be a complicated case. More information is expected to be forthcoming in the next few days and weeks.
