On 22 and 23 November, Miss Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Monaco in Italy and Deputy Alternate Representative to FAO and WFP, participated in the European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR).
It was organized in Rome by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Italian Department of Civil Protection, in partnership with the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
The session was opened by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and UN Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mami Mizutori.
Both called on the 55 States represented and all participants to respond without further delay to the effects of climate change and the growing impact of natural disasters that lead to displacement and environmental and economic damage, unprecedented, in the region.
The Forum concluded with the “Rome Declaration” which calls for accelerating the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Action 2015-2030, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Agreement adopted in 2015.
The conclusions of this Forum will serve as a basis for the work of the next Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Geneva from 13 to 17 May 2019.
As a reminder, in this field, the Prince’s Government provides financial support to several Sahelian countries so that the civil protection services of these countries can acquire equipment adapted to respond to emergencies.
