AS Monaco has finally formalized the arrival of Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas is the Principality’s third winter recruit, and the Spanish midfielder formerly of Chelsea has signed a three and a half year contract, guaranteeing his services with the club until 2022.
The Cesc Fabregas saga has finally ended and the Principality has its new star man. In arguably one of the most anticipated moves of the winter mercato, the Monegasque side has just brought on a formidable talent to help breathe life back into their attack. A former Arsenal teammate of new manager Thierry Henry, the two will immediately put their minds together to find solutions for the struggling Monegasque team.
Arriving at the Blues in 2014 after a stint in Barcelona and eight years with English side Arsenal before that, the Catalonia native has said goodbye to the Premier League he knows so well to discover the French Ligue 1.
Cesc Fabregas, a “world class” recruit
It must be said that a change of air was needed for the Spanish player. Lack of playing time in Roman Abramovich’s Londonian club, he will immediately have a key role in rebuilding this Monegasque side, something he seems rather pleased to take on:
“It is a great pleasure to join AS Monaco, it is a new project for me. The group is of quality with young players and a young coach. I’m here to help the team, I’m looking forward to starting, we have a great match to play in Marseille on Sunday. I am very excited.”
Known for his quick decision-making and passing quality, the Roja’s “metronome” will undoubtedly be of great help to AS Monaco, stuck in the relegation zone of the French league table for the past few weeks. The experienced player with formidable technique will be a welcome addition to Thierry Henry’s group who has lacked a playmaker of this caliber since the beginning of the campaign.
Vadim Vasilyev, Vice President of ASM also welcomed the arrival of the double European and world champion:
“We are very pleased to welcome Cesc Fabregas to AS Monaco. He is a world-class player and a great professional, whose arrival demonstrates the club’s ambition. This is obviously a very good technical recruit for the team but we are convinced that his experience at the highest level will bring a lot to our players on and off the field. “
Next match: Sunday evening at the Vélodrome against Olympique Marseille at 9 pm.
