This weekend (26-27 January 2019), the celebrations of Saint Devota, patron saint of Monaco, will light up the streets of the Principality. The highlight of this great festival: a tremendous fireworks show from the embankment of the Hercules Port.
For those uninitiated, the Saint Devota festival is one of the Principality of Monaco’s oldest traditions. Ever since 1874, the tradition born of the legend known as Saint Devota has been perpetuated. To mark the occasion, a boat is burned in the presence of the Prince and the royal family. Only after this ceremony can the fireworks be launched.
A remodeled site
For this 2019 edition, the fire, which will start around 7:45 pm on Saturday, January 26th, promises to be sublime. One thousand five hundred lighters will be installed on the port for a show of Monegasque colors that will last 12 minutes. Another event not to be missed on Sunday, at 4 pm: an organ concert given by Giulio Mercati at the Saint Devota church.
For more information and to discover the complete program, visit the official Saint Devota website (www.saintedevotemonaco.com), which has been freshly remodeled. You can order a free DVD dedicated to the patron saint of Monaco. The website also features a full program of the weekend that promises to be rich in official events.
