Monte Carlo Ballet visits Santo Domingo

From Thursday, February 21st to Saturday 23rd, the Monte Carlo Ballet made a visit to the Dominican Republic where they performed LAC three times in support of two local associations. It was an opportunity to dance for a good cause!

“Quireme como soy” (“Love me as I am”) and “Nido para angeles”(“Nido Foundation for Angels”) are the two Dominican associations with which the Monaco-based Ballet collaborated this past week for their Carribean excursion.

The first association works for the inclusion of children with mental disabilities, while the second defends young people with cerebral palsy. It was at the initiative of Sonia Villanueva de Brouwer, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco, that the dance tour stopped for three dates in the Dominican Republic, performing at Teatro Eduardo Brito. This is the second time that the Rock’s dancers have been invited to the island country.

Dance for the future

In addition to the three performances, members of the National School of Local Dance and the Dominican National Ballet were able to attend a masterclass given by Asier Uriagereka. Focusing on Jean-Christophe Maillot’s repertoire, the morning-long meeting allowed for a fruitful exchange between Monegasque and Carribean performers. Education and generosity were the keywords of these few days in Santo Domingo, a Carribean stage of a world tour that will take the Principality’s dancers to Asia in early March.
