40th session of the Human Rights Council Adoption held in Geneva

Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Principality to the United Nations Office at Geneva, participated on Thursday, March 14, with regards to the final report of the Working Group on the 3rd Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Monaco. It was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, during the 40th session of the Human Rights Council.

On this occasion, Ms. Lanteri intervened, in particular, to respond to the recommendations on human rights made with regards to the Principality during its review in November 2018.

The adoption of this report marked the end of this process and reiterated the Government’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights.

Several Member States took the floor to express their opinion on this document and welcomed the Principality’s commitment to human rights policy.

For the record, the Universal Periodic Review is a mechanism set up in 2006 within the framework of the UN Human Rights Council. Member states and observers of the Council examine the policy of their peers in the field of human rights. Men and formulate recommendations against them with a view to strengthening it. All UN member states submit to it, every 5 years.
