Isabelle Picco, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, participated in the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Held on Friday, 15 March.
The theme of this session: “Social Protection Systems, Access to Public Services and Sustainable Infrastructure for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls”. In her address, the Ambassador highlighted the 7.5% loss of global GDP due to gender-based discrimination (OECD report March 2019).
She also outlined the principles of the social protection policy of the Principality and announced the creation of the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women. She also recalled the actions of Monegasque international cooperation, particularly in Mali, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and East Timor.
Finally, the Ambassador defended the inclusion in the agreed conclusions of the Commission’s work on the theme of sport, an essential right for girls and women.
