A Monegasque delegation, composed of Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, and Alexandre Bordero, Director of Health Action, took part in the 6th High-Level Meeting of Small Countries of WHO Europe, held from 31 March to 2 April 2019 in Saint-Martin.
The meeting, opened by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, focused on “Equity and sustainable development: Keeping the person at the centre”.
Following the recent report on socio-economic factors affecting health – which will be the subject of a conference in Ljubljana (Slovenia) on 11th June 2019 – the WHO recalled that the maintenance of good health a population is an investment for a country and not an additional expense, and socio-economic factors are decisive (differences in life expectancy are identifiable between regions, neighbourhoods of a city, etc.).
Monaco has outlined its social policy, as a vector for reducing inequalities and social and intergenerational diversity.
It should be noted that, in parallel with this 6th meeting, the Monegasque Delegation and the Ambassador of Monaco accredited to San Marino participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Captains Regents; an important event for San Marino, taking place every 6 months since the 13th century.
