AS Monaco has recently maneuvered into a nice move on the transfer market. Indeed, after a first loan abroad in England last January, midfielder Yuri Tielemans is being permanently transferred to Leicester. The reported amount of the transfer: approximately 45 million euros. A nice sum for a player who was recruited in the summer of 2017 for 25 million euros!
What memories will red and white supporters keep of Yuri Tielemans’ time on the Rock? Perhaps his irreproachable attitude or his 6 goals and 3 assists over 65 games… Most likely his underperformance given the 22-year-old midfielder’s potential, which was demonstrated throughout his stay in Anderlecht (18 goals and 15 assists in one season)…
Record transfer for Leicester
Those same supporters are now unlikely to cross paths with the mercurial talent after his final transfer to Leicester (EPL). The English club coached by Brendan Rodgers has spent nearly 45 million euros to retain the Belgian Red Devil, loaned for the first time last January. This is the most expensive transfer in the history of the club, which finished in 9th place last season. For the Monegasque club, who wants to complete the transfers of Benjamin Lecomte and Ruben Aguilar (two arrivals from Montpellier) in all due haste, this added value shows once again the front office’s sound business sense…
On another note, the German defender Benjamin Henrichs could also be on his way out. Bayern Munich has shown interest. If the transaction is made, it would be yet another good financial pirouette for the club.
