This past Thursday, AS Monaco announced the extension of Benoît Badiashile’s contract for an additional season. Now linked to the Monegasque club until June 2024, the young 18-year-old central defender more than ever embodies the future of the club.
At 18, the young Benoît Badiashile can boast of having already played 40 games in Ligue 1 and in the National Cups. Not to mention his two appearances in the Champions League last year. It’s difficult to do better at this age… On the official website of the club, the defender said he was delighted with this contract extension. “I am very happy to extend my contract with AS Monaco, my youth club, where I started my professional career. I’m in my second season, I’m going to continue to work hard to progress, to cross the thresholds and to help the team fight for the best possible results.”
Badiashile courted by the biggest names in Europe
Having arrived in Monaco in 2016, Benoît Badiashile experienced his first start barely a year ago. It was against PSG on November 11, 2018. Today, he stands out as a full-fledged starter in Leonardo Jardim’s defensive scheme, a rarity at his age for a central defender. Last summer, several European and English clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund tried to recruit the young star. Valued at nearly 50 million euros, Monaco has now sealed its future for a little while!
