Jakobs and Diatta help Senegal beat Vanderson’s Brazil

AS Monaco duo Ismail Jakobs and Krepin Diatta helped propel Senegal to a memorable 2-4 victory over Brazil in what was an intriguing international friendly.

Despite going behind early against an immensely talented Brazil side that featured ASM hotshot Vanderson on the bench, Aliou Cisse’s Senegal produced an impressive comeback to get ahead by the 52nd minute, with a strike from Habib Diallo and an own goal from Marquinhos giving them the lead.

Sadio Mane then extended their advantage shortly after before Marquinhos got himself on the scoresheet for his own team this time to make it 2-3.

The Bayern Munich star in Mane then restored Senegal’s two-goal cushion at the death to secure a famous triumph in a match where the Lions of Teranga also became the first African team to score four goals in a game vs. Brazil.

Clinical, incisive and playing as a collective, there was much to admire about this sensational result in Portugal to stun the Selecao despite Senegal having less possession and fewer shots.

While Vanderson was an unused sub and Diatta was only granted a handful of minutes, it was positive to see Jakobs put in a solid shift at left-back to fly the Monaco flag, where he neatly performed his roles and responsibilities on both sides of the ball throughout the entire contest.

The Monaco contingent involved in this pulsating clash will now look forward to a much-needed break to recharge the batteries ahead of what looms as a fascinating 2023/2024 for the Principality club.
