Princess Caroline of Hanover is the eldest daughter of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly. She is married to Ernst August, Prince of Hanover. She holds a degree in philosophy from the Sorbonne. She is particularly involved in the Monégasque cultural scene.
Wanting to help distressed young people, she founded the “Jeune J’Ecoute” association in 1981. The aim of this telephone platform is to listen to young people and their concerns. Since 1983, Princess Caroline has been Honorary President of the Guides of Monaco, a youth movement to which she belonged during her childhood and adolescence. The movement was renamed “Association des Guides et Scouts de Monaco” in 1992.
I am lucky to have the opportunity in Monaco to help others grow and develop their creativity, as well as be able to defend the freedom of artists. This is essential, it has always been my main focus, and the battle is yet to be won.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, appointed her as a Goodwill Ambassador in 2003. This distinction is in recognition of her commitment to the protection of children and the family, as well as her contribution to the promotion of UNESCO’s programmes for the education of girls and women.
Princess Caroline founded the Compagnie des ballets de Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s Ballet company, and is president of the Opera of Monte-Carlo. She is also an officer of the Princess Grace Foundation and President of AMADE International. She is married to Ernst August, Prince of Hanover. Founded more than fifty years ago by Grace Kelly, the World Association of Children’s Friends helps more than 40,000 of the world’s most vulnerable children every year.
