Drummer Sir Richard Starkey needs no introduction. He joined the Beatles in 1962, two years after the group’s creation. After the band separated in 1970, he released several successful singles as a solo artist and a total of 20 studio albums.

He is considered by many musicians and the public as one of the best drummers in the history of rock music. His tempo holding and the invention of a unique style of drum roll have contributed to his fame.

Drumming is my middle name

In his childhood, he experienced periods of severe illness that interfered with his education. He joined his first band as a drummer in 1957 in Liverpool. He was knighted and received the title of Knight of the British Monarchy in 2018.

In 1999, he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. He is also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist and as a member of The Beatles.

Together with his wife, they founded the Lotus Foundation, which works to improve social welfare. In 2012, he was named the wealthiest drummer in the world. He lives between London, Los Angeles and Monte-Carlo.
