The Magician

A magician seeking to create life finds that he needs the blood of a virgin to continue his experiments. So, he sends out his dwarf assistant to pick out the right girl. Adapted from a short story by William Somerset Maugham, The Magician is one of the first American horror films.

A young female sculptor in the Latin Quarter of Paris is injured in her studio; she is treated by a surgeon who falls in love with her. Another doctor, hypnotist and magician, practising a less conventional medicine, believes he has found an alchemical formula for the creation of life, one of the ingredients of which is the blood of a young woman.
