In addition to its motor racing, the Principality of Monaco is also known for its motorboat races. Every year since 2013, the Yacht Club de Monaco has organised this event together with the Prince Albert II Foundation and the International Motor Yachting Union.

Monaco has always been at the cutting edge of technology. More than a century ago, pioneers of another type of propulsion came here to present their latest developments at an annual motorboat meeting. Sharing knowledge is encouraged, as participants in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge have the opportunity to discuss their work during the Teak Talks which are usually held in the evening. All presentations are made available online afterwards, so information is accessible to everyone.

The purpose of this event? To combine technological innovations with environmental issues in order to propose and promote a new version of yachting that is more respectful of the planet. The competition is divided into three categories (Energy, Solar and Open Sea) in which prototypes are presented that may pave the way for the boats of tomorrow. Nevertheless, due to the health crisis linked to Covid-19, the 2020 edition has been modified and has taken place online.
