Fifty years ago, Fontvieille was just a narrow strip of sand, where the Rock fell steeply into the sea. The birth of a new district in Monaco was linked to the economic development of the Principality. During the development of this new land (17 hectares reclaimed from the sea), part of it was dedicated to the creation of a marina. Situated at the foot of the Rock of Monaco in its eastern part, the port of Fontvieille is certainly one of the best sheltered in the region since it is protected from easterly winds by stone. But also from the south and west swell by the large dyke which ensures the protection of the whole district.
In the heart of the administrative centre of Monaco, the marina is a real Marina giving all the amenities to passing and permanent yachtsmen alike. This haven of peace can accommodate up to 275 boats with a maximum draught of three metres. Moreover, yachtsmen have at their disposal all the services necessary for the good functioning of a marina: water, electricity at each berth as well as sanitary facilities and showers. Note that close to the port are: a shopping centre, supermarkets, shops, the Monaco heliport and the Louis II stadium sports complex. Not to mention the many restaurants along the waterfront. This makes the port of Fontvieille a real place to live where it is good to stroll in all seasons.
